Parents at Kambui school for the deaf in Githunguri, Kenya have accused the school head and his deputy of harassing pupils. The parents claimed that the two administrators were using, Administration Police officers to punish their children, NTV reports, sometimes even locking them up in cells.
Speaking during a recent meeting, one of the parents revealed that her son had suffered burns and fractures due to disciplinary action. The parents demanded an investigation into the matter, saying that action should be taken against the responsible teachers.
Caning is illegal in Kenyan schools, following a ban that was effected in 2001 by the then Education Minister, Kalonzo Musyoka.
