Gunmen attack hotel in Somali capital

(File, AP)A Somali police official says gunmen have forced their way into a hotel in the capital of Mogadishu.

Spokesperson Mohamed Hussein said on Friday that a suicide bomber had rammed his car into the SYL Hotel's entrance and a number of gunmen entered the building after an exchange of gunfire with hotel guards.

The hotel, which is located across from the presidential palace in Mogadishu, is frequented by government officials and business executives.
 
The Islamic extremist al-Shabaab group claimed responsibility for the attack.
