A bus has fallen into a pond in India's remote northeast on Wednesday, killing 13 people.Police said 16 others aboard the bus were injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst in the Tripura state.
Seven others escaped unharmed. Police said that six of the victims died on the spot, while seven died either at or on their way to the hospital.
Bus accidents are common in India, due mainly to vehicle overcrowding, badly maintained roads and old vehicles.
About 240 000 people die in road accidents in the country every year, according to the transportation ministry's last assessment.
