Al
Shabaab terrorists may be in for a rude shock next time they attack a
university or school in Kenya like they did last week in Garissa.
The
Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto,
was contemplating introducing military training in schools as part of
the education curriculum.
This
was revealed by a senior Government official who said that the
President and his Deputy were considering the proposal as a way of
addressing insecurity in schools and keeping students safe.
The
idea was supported by several leaders, among them Gongoni Ward
Representative, Alfred Kiraga, who said that the education system should
encompass a mandatory paramilitary training similar to that in Israel
and other countries to make the youth patriotic and for self defence to
avoid a Garissa-like situation where 147 students were massacred like
flies by only 4 terrorists.
“There
is need to make changes in the country’s education curriculum to make
it mandatory for all citizens to undergo paramilitary studies. This will
address security concerns our country is faced with,” said Kiraga.
If the proposal goes through, there would be no need for Recce Squad in case the Al Shabaab attack a school in Kenya.
